Be In: Delhi Queer Pride 2010

Join us in supporting and being part of this incredible event which is in its third year and entirely funded by the community. We have a lot to celebrate this year with the decriminalization of Article 377, but the march is also a space to talk about the violence, abuse, and discrimination the LGBT community is subjected to.

The march will start at Barakhamba Road and end at Jantar Mantar - for those of you who have something to say, sing, or play (as long as it's under 2 minutes), a stage has been organized. Please get in touch with delhiqueerpride@gmail.com to join the list. Masks, scarves, flags, and whistles, and leaflets will be given out at the start of the march.

Join us in all your colorful splendor! Spread the word and bring along friends, lovers, family, and pets!

Art: Women Commuting

In a city like Delhi, we're sure everyone's given some thought to the age old problem of how to get home. You can't exactly stay in all the time, and travelling at night could give even the most street wise commuter some heebie-jeebies.

That's why Transportraits: Women And Mobility In The City really resonated for us. A curated show by Gauri Gill, it features photographs, art work, words and video all on the subject of getting home safe. It made us think, and we're sure it will do the same for you.

Where: Alliance Francaise
When: Now till November 24th (but will travel across the country)

That's right, remember you heard it here first. The iconic New York skincare brand is now in Delhi, and just in time to fulfill our moisturizing needs this winter. Some of their best loved products - Creme de Corps and Ultra Facial Moisturizer are sure to make your shopping list this season.

The store has been made to look like a little part of NY's East Village and promises one-on-one consultations and samples. See you there.

Workshop: On Antique Shawls

The Carpet Cellar has an incredible collection of shawls and carpets, but more than that, they really know their stuff. The last workshop was fascinating - among others, we were shown antique carpets which were made by prisoners in Agra while serving time under the Mughals. The stories behind each piece is a little bit of history and makes it a living work of art.

This one will concentrate on Pashminas and Jamawars, and examples of weaving from all over the world.

When: 12-2pm, Saturday November 27th

Art: Exhibition on Tolstoy's Life

Having recently rediscovered the Russian classics for all their glory, this is an exhibition that ranks right up there for us. Since it's old Leo's death anniversary the IIC is having an exhibition with letters, writing and photographs from his life. It's something anyone interested in writing--or reading--should make it a point to do.

When: Now till 23rd November
Where: India International Centre, Lodhi Road

Film: Irish Film Festival at IHC

The Habitat Center in collaboration with the Embassy of Ireland has put together a fantastic list of movies to be screened this week. And really, who couldn't use a little luck of the Irish?

Our pick: Once starring Glen Hansard and Marketa Iglova is as beautiful and life-affirming as the music that came from it (remember Falling Slowly?). Watch them sing and fall in love on the streets of Dublin.

Music: Cuenta Cuentos at TLR

One of our favorite Delhi bands - Cuenta Cuentos is performing at TLR. A Spanish-Jazz group, their music is perfect for a winter's night in the characteristic Hauz Khas Village. You can wander in and out of TLR's vast terraces with a drink, listening to Parvati's smokey vocals. When hungry, try the honey-glazed lamb and end with the lovely Philadelphia cheesecake.

When: 9pm, Saturday 20th November
Where: The Living Room, Hauz Khas Village

Eat: Cheap Date at Capri Italy

Capri Italy (what used to be Little Italy in Defence Colony Market) make look little and unassuming, but they have a very good deal on drinks and food. For Rs 499, you can get either two large Bacardis or vodka and a starter or two glasses of wine and a main course (except sea food).

The food is pretty decent and as for the wine, you get either Australian or Indian. We tried an Australian red, which was excellent and our friend got the Sula sparkling, also good. This is a nice option for dinner with the girls, or a work meeting, when you don't want to get too drunk.

Shop: Antique Furniture at Amar Colony

Everyone knows Amar Colony as the place you can get cheap, decent furniture. Sometimes, second hand stuff too, but rarely anything of much value. Tara Singh's shop proves the contrary. From a collapsible Chinese chest with intricate carvings all over it to the kind of dressing table your grandmother would use--with two wood pigeons carved above the mirror, this is a great place to go if you're redecorating and have a taste for the old.
